Dover, Delaware

City with an estimated 2010 population of 36,047; second largest city in the state. State capital of Delaware. First founded in 1683 as the court town for the county of Kent and named by William Penn for the city in England. The state capital was moved here in 1777 to avoid raids by British forces during the Revolution. Home to a Quaker community that supported emancipation in the 19th century, Dover was a stop on the northbound Underground Railroad.

Home of the "Dover International Speedway", also known as the "Monster Mile". Dover Air Force Base is the home base for the largest military mortuary in the Department of Defense.
